An old traditional place with variety of cakes and 100% Arabica coffee. The biggest loose tea selection in Hampstead. Surprise, they only serve teabags for takeaway orders. I'm a toffee person, so tried a toffee cake, which was delicious. My friends ate a meringue cake with plums and a rhubarb one, which were also very good and fresh.
Traditional and lovely, the cakes are excellent and the tea comes in pots and with sweet old style cups and saucers.
A COMPLETE LETDOWN. This was a lovely place for years, but a change of ownership hasn't been kind to it. There are far better options in Hampstead.
I used to be in the love with this place 5 years ago but I went here last week and the cake selection has totally changed!!! So have the owners!! It just doesn't have the same feel and the pastries are nowhere near as good. Such a disappointment.
Awful customer service - staff are unfriendly and seem absolutely clueless about what they’re doing. Didn’t try any of the cakes but the coffee was dreadful.
My grandparents used to bring me here as a child 40 odd years ago. I last visited about 5 years ago. Wanted a bit of Christmas nostalgia today so popped in. Although the cake was just as good, the atmosphere was lacking. However, if you want a delicious cake and tea or coffee its still worth a visit.
Great selection of cakes. I had a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel and a Black Forrest cake slice. Nice atmosphere while sitting at the tables in this small cafè next to Hampstead tube station. A toilet is available for customers on the first floor: ask for the key!
Me and my husband often visit tea room If we are up for over indulgence of calories. Tea room is so cosy and staff are warm and welcoming. I love all the pastries chocolate vegan one is to die for. Weekends are always full. Worth the wait
Visited the shop 3 weeks ago as I wanted to buy some "Dobos" cake (it's a well known Hungarian cake)Unfortunately there wasn't any available in the store. I have asked them if they can let me know if they consider making any of this cake again, the barista took my email address and assured me that they will let me know either way. I also sent them an email, just in case (found on their website)3 weeks later still no reply...This does not look like a good customer service.
Definitely has been an amazing experience!! Is a little paradise of sweets and soury cakes and pastries in Hampstead. The tea room is so cosy and they served also English breakfast or afternoon tea! Hungarian specialities by the way...Super recommended.
Very busy place at peak times especially during the summer months, but definitely worth the wait and queuing for some of the best cakes and pastries you can get... and their chocolate rum balls are just insane. This place has always been up there with Paul or Patisserie Valerie in my opinion, but Louis just has something extra in the way of charm and a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere that the others lack.
Really really friendly staff! The eggs are beautifully cooked, and the sour dough is also the best choice of the day. Simply tasty! We enjoy very much of our coffee too. Def will come back!
Fantastic, unique tearoom that I travel across London every week to enjoy. Love the ambience & the loose leaf tea! The owners are a joy to behold.
Friendly, efficient and quick service, a few culinary gems like the pogaca. Old style decoration would do with a bit of a renewal.
I’ve been coming here for 30 years & it is a truly wonderful traditional tearoom with additional European delicacies. The owners are beautiful people for whom nothing is too much trouble. A warm greeting, great food and a cosy old-world atmosphere await.
Ordered a cake for a birthday. It was amazing quality.
Could be a great place. Unfortunately the service was let down by inconsistency - one great waitress and two less enthusiastic ones: getting orders wrong at different tables, slow to clear tables, asked for two pots of tea and was given one pot. When queried was told the smaller pot was "for one" and the bigger pot was "for two" that would have been fine but the larger pot wasn't that big which is why we had ordered two pots of tea initially. When asked for a top of hot water was given a much smaller pot of water which wasn't enough for even one more cup of tea. You may have gathered I love my tea! Earl grey was delicious as were the cakes and favourites. Lots of choice too, even on a busy day.
Cosy place and friendly staff. Coffee and cake like your mum or grandma would make it. Feels like home.
The cafe has a wonderful selection of cakes! The staff are great and then we owners are so friendly. There is a wide selection of drinks as well as alternative milks if you prefer. Would definitely recommend!
Nice place where to eat really good food
Cool place, nice experience especially the Greek girl rocks, really polite and willing to help
Dating wise this is a good venue for coffee and cake but not a big fan of the recent makeover. They lost some of the old world feel of the place by installing a modern huge glass counter and removed one of the excellent corner sofas.
Amazing customer service! Friendly staff. They have coffee that tastes great and is prepared with great care!
Cakes improved nice old worldly atmosphere real leaf tea in China cups
Great pattisserie with a good selection and coffees. Nice for a change and something different than all the chains that we see nowadays.
What a disappointment! I had been a few times just a couple of years ago to enjoy the sophisticated mittle-Europe atmosphere and the amazing continental cakes which you would choose from a tray.. Now everything is gone, besides the panelling of the room which stands out of place as they now sell a mishmash of stodgy cakes, plastic toys ( why ?) and special flours ( why ?) ... what a shame ..
Delicious cakes, very nice place, highly recommended. I will be there next weekend
Very cozy tea room ambience. The food and the beverages are great, served in beautiful cups. If you are in a good mood you will appreciate the tackiness of the place for old styles sake, otherwise you d think it s decoration is of bad taste.
Excellent hot chocolate and cake on a cold dark winter's day. Staff are polite and helpful taking care of the both the bakery customers at the front and seated cafe customers behind the bakery. There is a risk that the staff can become busy both manning the shop front and the cafe area. The decor has not been modernised to twenty - first century. This is part of its charm and character. It does what it does rather well and has stood the test of time. People can recall visits when they were kids a generation or two back. Worth a visit.
Cosy little place with kind staff, also good coffee & cakes.
Lovely place a for a coffee/tea. We were a group of 5 and got lucky as another group was leaving as we arrived. Can get quite busy. The cakes were delicious and the coffee was good. The girls working there were all very polite and friendly. Really great café!
Old school Hungarian themed Patisserie, they sell some of the most authentic Hungarian cakes I've had since Budapest! Best to sit inside and enjoy the decor, there's not many places that offer such an atmosphere!
The new owners are friendly and the cakes aren't bad, but whoever remembers the old Louis with its incomparable atmosphere can't help but feel a tinge of sadness at the modernised interior and streamlined menu.
Nothing special meals at atrocious prices.
Not up to its normal standard as the cake selection wasn't as varied and extensive as usual. Also service was slow as although we got our hot drinks first we had to wait for our cakes. There wasn't many people in the cafe so we couldn't understand why we had to wait
I LOVE visiting this shop...always purchase my cakes here...if you're visiting someone (especially blokes) bring them a box of cakes, bagels etc from here...
An integral stop off in Hampstead.
Fantastic cakes and really comfortable. Staff are very friendly and the prices are reasonable.
Looks great in the store but everything I purchased was stale
There is nothing Hungarian in this 'Hungarian Patisserie'. When asked, I was told the poppy seed brioche was the only Hungarian pastry. Since when we class brioche a Hungarian pastry. Very disappointing....
A big selection of cakes, I've had 3 different cakes: chestnut, cheesecake and cream cake, none of them taste nice. The cheesecake shouldn't be called cheesecake. I've drank a cup of the mocha which was the only good thing in my opinion, but came about 10 minutes after the cakes, I would expect it to come along with the cakes. The interior reminds me of an old tea house, really cosy in my opinion, but overall it wasn't the best experience. Wouldn't come back...
It used to be one of the last authentic non-hipster, non-chain tearooms in London. Been there a few days ago and they have have "updated" the interior with the cheapest possible furniture, horrible pictures and cushions, turning it into a completely tasteless, anonymous space. As for the food, it might still be good, but you can find good food in many other (nicer) places around there.Shame
Hampstead is a lovely area and the interior and vibe in the Louis Patisserie is nice. However, they need to get rid of their chef. Whoever is making the pastries or cakes is not doing it well. For the prices they charge, it needs to be much better. They offer a Hungarian poppy seed roll (mákos bejgli), for example. If you go to Budapest you can taste some excellent examples of this. Sadly Louis Patisserie's version is no good by comparison. To conclude: for Hampstead, the standard needs to be MUCH higher. I hope Louis Patisserie do something about this and go on to offer something on the same level as the leading bakeries in Budapest, or indeed Vienna.
Well deserving of five stars. Friendly, efficient staff and this place has been going from 1963. The patisserie are magnificent......I think a jewel of a place. Not for private meetings but great for food and atmosphere......
Dreadful! An absolute shadow of the former Louis Patisserie. The cake I had was inedible, dry and yuck. Far too expensive and the new owners have ruined the beautiful interior. Just don't bother!
Very cozy patisserie with friendly and attentive staff and tasty food. Quiche is amazing
Well...a bit disappointing. The interior is absolutely gorgeous, the 2 shop assistant ladies (1 turkish and 1 romanian...no hungarian in a hungarian pastry shop?) were kind but did not have much knowledge about the products. The place was empty, there was only one customer beside me-he was just leaving. So...I bought a piece of cake with chestnut. The cake itself tasted like coffee and it was only sprinkled with chestnut...and did not taste fresh at all. For £3.50 I would call it mid-priced but should have been more fresh.
Used to be excellent but the business has been passed down to family, cakes are definitely not the same no more, such a shame as I used to come with my parents regularly as a child, and no other place could match the taste :(
NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE! They used to make sublime patisseries and cakes when Louis was still around. The quality is gone. We ordered a cake and ended up with something mediocre and over-priced that nobody liked. Sorry to say but can't recommend.
Not many of the original Hungarian cakes left here, but still it was super delicious with great coffees and teas accompanying the Hungarian cheese bake. Tasted just like my grandma's :)
